Gweta to Chobe National Park

Baobab Group

We took a group picture under a Boabab tree before our departure and were on the road by 7:00 a.m., proceeding towards Chobe National Park.  We camped just outside of the Park near the town of Kasane.  Just as we were nearing Kasane, we approached a herd of elephants alongside the road.  The driver (Theo) stopped to allow us to take some pictures.  He was unaware of the Police coming up behind us.  They were not impressed with us stopping in the traffic lane so hauled us over and gave the driver a ticket which had to be paid immediately.  Theo tried to reason with them.  Anyway, they decided to take us to the Police station where Theo and our guide, Janet, managed, after an hour of negotiation, to convince the Chief to cancel the ticket.

We made it to our campsite in time to eat and make the optional sunset cruise on the Chobe River which forms part of the Chobe National Park.  I opted for the cruise and was not at all disappointed.  We were bombarded with some spectacular photo opportunities of hippo, crocodiles, birds, cape buffalo and watched many elephants wallow in the water.  Like Etosha, not a moment went by where there wasn't something to see.

As the sun was setting the boat operator set us up for some great sunset shots.  As darkness drew near, we headed back to the dock, loaded ourselves into the truck and headed back to camp for supper.
