We left Stone Town at around 9:00 a.m. and headed north to a communal spice plantation located just outside of Stone Town. We took a 2-hour walking tour of the plantation and were treated to some of the local produce and watched a coconut tree climbing demonstration.
We then headed north to the extreme northern tip of Zanzibar. We arrived at the Amaan beach resort located in the village of Nungwi at 1:00 p.m. A group of us headed into the village of Nungwi for lunch at a local restaurant (cleanliness didn’t appear to be of any concern). We had a popular Tanzania dish called Mayai (an omelet with french fries mixed in it). We would likely call it a french fry omelet if it were served in Canada.
After lunch we headed back to the resort where I booked an all-day snorkeling trip for tomorrow and then I browsed the string of resorts along the beach front. The resorts are all interconnected by a pathway, but separated from the local village and surrounding area by fencing and walls for the security of guests and the facilities. This arrangement seems to be common in many areas that we visited in our travels.
I am looking forward to my snorkeling trip tomorrow as the beaches here are simply beautiful with bright white coral sand. So I expect that snorkeling will produce some pretty spectacular coral reef views.
Until tomorrow.
