Kalahari to Maun

Today we traveled from Kalahari towards Maun.  As we drew closer to Maun, the land became more fertile.  It is still quite dry, but greener than the Kalahari area.  A common sight, as we approached Maun, was domestic animals, mostly donkeys, goats and cattle, grazing along the highway.

We camped near Maun on the Okavango River which flows into the Okavango Delta.  The name Maun means “place of reeds” and no doubt gets its name from all the reeds that are growing in the area due to proximity of the Delta.

As I type this blog I am being bombarded with all kinds of flying insects and beetles.  It is so bad that I am going to have to pack it in. There is not much more to report for today.  The trip was uneventful.

The temperature for the past few days has been a consistent 38 C during the day and only cools down slightly at night.  I guess I had better get used to it as we are getting even closer to the equator.

Tomorrow we head into the Okavango Delta for two nights of basic bush camping.
